In the story they show that even though the country is in a depression they are still having a good time and not everybody is broke. The party shows people in the worst part of their lives having a good time. Even though they are broke and probably close to being homeless they still can have a good time. Mr. Gatsby is one of those people who weren't effected badly by the depression because he had such luxurious things.

This is a huge example of the jazz age theme because people were doing things such as drinking which was illegal at the time because of prohibition. Even thought drinking was illegal they still had a great time drinking and partying alone. The author speaks about how you could tell that the thought of illegal drinking was in no ones mind when he says that "the bar was in full swing and cocktails permeate the garden outside". In mind the author was saying that the guest was saying hey we don't care that drinking is illegal, the country is in a depression and we're going to have fun regardless. The jazz age theme is all through this story because it shows people having a great time during the worst time of their life.
