In the story they show that even though the country is in a depression they are still having a good time and not everybody is broke. The party shows people in the worst part of their lives having a good time. Even though they are broke and probably close to being homeless they still can have a good time. Mr. Gatsby is one of those people who weren't effected badly by the depression because he had such luxurious things.

This is a huge example of the jazz age theme because people were doing things such as drinking which was illegal at the time because of prohibition. Even thought drinking was illegal they still had a great time drinking and partying alone. The author speaks about how you could tell that the thought of illegal drinking was in no ones mind when he says that "the bar was in full swing and cocktails permeate the garden outside". In mind the author was saying that the guest was saying hey we don't care that drinking is illegal, the country is in a depression and we're going to have fun regardless. The jazz age theme is all through this story because it shows people having a great time during the worst time of their life.

gatsby's party

In this story the author talks about a man who throws huge parties were almost every one in the country attend. His name is Gatsby and he is extremely wealthy and in some ways shows it off. The author talks about how you would see him in his Rolls Royce or his many servants doing work in his home, his garden, and carrying out huge crates of oranges and limes.

One night the author is invited to one of his parties and when he arrives he see's that it is alive and full of people. He walks around and runs into a woman named Jordan Baker and two twins. Ms. Baker is a golfer and the twins are some sort of musicians. As they carry on the conversation they start to say that they heard certain things about their host. One says that they heard that he was a German spy during the war. This topic is quickly put to an end and they go on with the party. After a while the author starts a conversation with a man and soon realizes that he is the one hosting the party. After they talk a while Mr. Gatsby goes into his home and the author continues his conversation with Ms.Baker.

A little while later Mr. Gatsby asks that Ms.Baker come and see him inside his house. She leaves and the author sits alone in the garden drinking Champaign. After a few minutes he follows the life of the party inside and realizes that it is also crowded in there. Before he leaves he runs into the two again and the share their good byes. When he gets outside he realizes that a man who is drunk has driven into a ditch. Ready to get home because he is tired he continues into the house and calls it a night.

Incident

In this poem I think at te time the author was disilusionted about going to Boston, because it seemed like he was so excited about going to the big city as if he was going to be treated like he was equal. But when he got there a white kid stuck his tounge out at him and called him a nigger. This in a way stuck out in his mind for a long time and is something that he will never foget, because the idea he had about going to the big city was completly wrong.

Mending Wall

In the poem Building wall it displays the element of disillusion because the characters both are seeing something in a way that it really isn't. One of them says that "a good wall makes a good neighbor", but this is not true for the simple fact that they work on this wall at least once a year and that’s the only time they see each other. If the fence was good and they didn’t have to work on it then they would in a way be strangers because they would never see each other. The other neighbor says that he really doesn't care about it because he feels that they would be good neighbors anyway. Once again this is not true because if there was no fence then there would be nothing to bring them together to interact in the spring time.

The Negro Speaks of Rivers

In this poem the author is referring to things that black people did before any white people were around. He speaks that his ancestors bathed in the Euphrates River and that’s were scientist believed the first people began, that the Egyptians who were responsible for the great pyramids were in Africa and were black. All that he is saying is that a lot of the great wonders of the world were seen by black people way before any type of white man. This poem is an element from the Harlem Renaissance because he is expressing the African American culture and how rich it is.

A Dream Differed

This poem is a piece of modernism because it is showing the element of disillusion. The reason I say this is because the author is showing that the American Dream is not what everybody thinks it is. That some people who are doing good think that everybody else is also, but this is not the case because a lot of African Americans had to put their dreams on hold and the longer it stays on hold the more rotten it gets. The author says in one part "Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun"? He also is saying that the longer it sits it starts to loose everything about itself.

Richard Corey

In this poem there is a man named Richard Corey who looks as he has everything going on in his life. When ever people see him he looks all together and as if he doesn't have any worries. Later on one evening he goes home and kills himself. In this poem I think the author is using the element of disillusion, because he makes everyone look at this guy and think something else but really there is a problem in his life. The author makes him look like a person that everybody wants to be even though they only see what he is like in public.

The Jazz age

I am planning to use read about the jazz age because I know alot about the others and some of the others don't seem to be all that fun to read about. The jazz age seem alot more introsting than all that other stuff because I really don't like to look at art all the time, Disillusionment seems to boaring, and Phychoanalysis seems to hard. In the story that Iread I expect ot see a lot more than just people playing Instruments.

Example

In the movie American Gangster Denzel Washington plays a drug king pin named Frank Lucus. He makes is reign in Harlem stronger by employing crooked cops, politicians, and other members of the mafia to do his dirty work and to buy from him. This movie is full of realism because it shows a drug epidemic and the way that un-honest cops help to keep it going. The way that he uses is power is almost ingenious. He imported large quantities of heroin in from Southeast Asia by flying them in on American military planes. He sells a better product than his competition for a price lower forcing them to go in to business with him thus making the drug epidemic worse than it was. He is finally caught and is arrested. He was sentenced to 185 years in prison but got it reduced to 15 on account of him helping to put all the politicians, cops, and judges he employed in jail.

The Battle with Mr.Covey

I think the purpose of Fredrick Douglas writing this story is to show people the way that he himself had to deal with the harsh ways of his slave owner. How slavery was a problem in society and that if nobody did anything about it then these type of slave rebellions would occur all over, and could be worse in some cases. He just had a fight with his owner but some other slaves might take it a step further and kill theirs.

He is on a slave plantation and while he is working he fall because he is so tires. After he falls he crawls to a fence and lies there until his master gets there. When his master gets there he kicks him and beats him over the head with a stick. He then runs away and while he is running he can feel the blood running down his head("the blood was yet oozing from the wound on my head, but the blood so matted my hair as to stop the wound"), and the sticks and rocks as they cut into his feet and cause them to bleed also.("I started my through bogs and berries, barefoot and bareheaded tearing my feet nearly at every step"). After he had gotten a few mlies away still bloody from his wounds he gets to another slave owners house the owner makes him return home in the morning. After he gets home he is whipped again and once again escapes. When he leaves this time he leaves with a man who has a free wife. When he gets there they give him a root and tell him that as long as he keeps the root on his right side then he will no longer receive a blow from his master. After he returns home while he is working his master come in the stable and they begin to fight. While they are fighting Fredrick gets the best of him and the fight ends.

Fredrick Douglas shed a lot of light on some things that people had no idea was going on on plantations. The true way that some slaves handled the way that their masters treated them and the causes of it.

Response

In this story they show a lot of realism thoughts. Everyday a marriage couple has a problem and some are bigger than others and they might cause one of the two might feel as if they are living for the other person. This is an issue that causes people to get divorces or have a miserable life. In the story the lady feels that she was living for her husband and was relieved that her husband had died. They show that marriage is not for everybody.

The woman receives the news and at first is unhappy but that effect doesn't last long because she gets that feeling of freedom from all the stress that everyday married couples go through everyday. She no longer has to deal with trying to do everything to please her husband, but she can live her life and do as she pleases. This feeling is soon crushed when her husband walks in and she see's that he isn't dead and dies form shock.

The Story of an Hour part.B

I think that the social issue that he is trying to address is that not every marrued couple is happly married. That in some marriages one person not be happy, because they think that they have somebody living their life for them."There would be no one to live for during those coming years; she would live for herself".

"A Story of an Hour"

In this story a woman receives news that her husband was killed while at work. When she receives this news she cries at first then she retires to her room and sits in a large arm chair. While she is in there a feeling of relief comes over her. She says that she is relieved that her husband has died because she can live her life as she wants with out anybody trying to bend her decision. When she leaves the room her sister is at the door waiting for her in concern for her health because she knows that she has a heart conditions. While they're heading up the stairs her husband walks into the house and as she looks at him she has a heart attack and dies instantly.

McFadden

The 2008 National Football League draft is slowly approaching, and, in some people’s minds, Arkansas running back Darren McFadden is the safest number one overall pick. The Miami Dolphins own that pick, but the team has two good running backs in Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams. Who’s to say that either of them will have a break out year though? Ricky is coming off a season where he tore a chest muscle in his first game back after serving a one and a half year suspension. Ronnie Brown tore his ACL and was lost after the sixth game of the season. It’s not an easy thing trying to recover from a torn ACL for the simple fact that there is a tremendous amount rehabilitation that goes into the process. Because of these facts and McFadden’s college career, I believe that he is the safest pick in the NFL draft.

In McFadden’s freshman year he showed that he is one of the best backs to ever play the game. He rushed for 1,113 yards and scored eleven touchdowns. He also averaged 6.8 yards per carry, which is almost enough for a first down every time he touches the ball. For a back to be able to do this in the South Eastern Conference is almost unheard of, and he was doing it as a true freshman. That year he also caught 14 passes for 52 yards. That might not sound like a lot but add that number on to his yards per rush, and you have an automatic first down whenever the ball is in McFadden’s hands.

Now, let’s move onto his sophomore season. The previous year he was named to the 2005 All-S.E.C. team and was named freshman of the year. Teams knew about the powerful runner that was carrying Arkansas on his back and were trying to find ways to stop him. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out that well. He added 534 more yards to his previous season yards and finished with 1,647 yards, but certain teams found a way to reduce his yards per carry down to 5.8. Oh, I’m sorry I forgot that we were talking about Darren McFadden a guy who does it all. His yards per carry may have gone down, but his receptions and yards per catch went through the roof. While he caught three less passes than he did the year before, he added 97 yards in the yards per catch category and scored 14 touchdowns all together.

In his last year in college, McFadden had what was considered one of his best years. After a sensational sophomore season, a Heisman trophy candidate, and being on the NCAA’s All-American first team offense, he was back to run through defenses again. While Arkansas struggled throughout the season, McFadden’s best game came against the soon to be National Champions, the LSU Tigers. McFadden did it all; he rushed 32 times for 206 yards and went three for six on passing with 32 yards and a touchdown. On the last play of the game, he was lined up a quarterback. He ran a play action fake to Felix Jones and hit Payton Hills for a touchdown. The defense came up with a big stop, and the Razorbacks won the game. McFadden ended his career with 4,590 yards, 41 touchdowns, 365 receiving yards, and 2 touchdowns. He finished as the number two career rusher in the SEC behind Herschel Walker and number 7 in rushing touchdowns.

It is true that Ricky Williams won the Heisman while at Texas and that Ronnie Brown went undefeated at Auburn, but how many times have you watched them become a triple threat on a team? Give credit where it is due! Darren McFadden is a home run player, hands down. There is no way that a general manager should over look this guy; he’s the type of athlete who falls into the category of being a game breaker and deserves to be the number one overall pick.

Thr Raven

This poem was about a man who is depressed about the death of his wife, and is up late at night trying to forget her by reading old stories. While sitting there half asleep he hears what he thinks is a knocking at his front door. He goes and finds nothing but the sound has not stopped. He then goes to his window and as he opens it a raven flies in. This stands out to me because a raven represents evil in a way, and at the time it is representing the depression that he is feeling after his wife has died. At this point it is clearly obvious that this is going against everything that the transcendentalist thought, because they did not believe that anyone would be depressed over death because that was god's work. He then has a conversation with the raven and asks is the raven ever going to go away and the raven answers never more. It is then that he realizes that he is going to be depressed about her death for the rest of his life. The transcendentalist would never speak about anything like this because they believed that everybody was to be happy all the time and accept what goes on around them.

The transcendentalist believed that all things were good and that when something happened that you should always look at it as something good. Dark romantics said no all things don't always have a good side because some things can cause you to be sad or hurt after it. They thought that everybody had some sort of evil in them because that was just human nature, because of the environment that they were in caused them to be. In the raven it shows a man sad and depressed over the death of his wife and a crown that represents the sadness and sorrow he will feel for as long as he lives.

Self Reliance

In this story of self reliance the author speaks about saying what you feel. He says that if you say something to "speak with words as hard of iron cannon balls." What he is saying is mean what you say. Speak up if you believe something then let it be known because that’s what you feel. He then goes on to say that God will not operate through an un-pure person that you have to be pure in your sprit and in your mind. Go against what society is saying or doing, because if you don't then you are going against what you feel and in a way going against what god has in store for you and your life. Then he states that it is good to be misunderstood, because Jesus, Newton, Socrates, and Luther were all misunderstood because they went against what society was saying or doing. But to be misunderstood is to be great in his mind.

All these statements from him are exact points of being a transcendentalist, because they believe in going with your own intuition because that was god speaking to you. That if you believed something then go with it and not to worry about society.

Nature

In this story the author is speaking of how he goes into solitude not physically but mentally and experiences nature. He experiences the trees, the mountains, and the river. He feels that he becomes transparent in a way that he is like an eye ball or the wind. He is not there but still there, and that all things from the universe are circulating through his body. In a way he transcends into another world than the one that he is in. The transcendentalist believed in these types of things, because they thought that they could leave their body and become one with god. That’s what he thought he was doing as he stood in nature and experienced all of these things

The Black Cat

In this book written by Edgar Allen Poe there are so many pieces of the belief of Dark Romanticism. In the story he starts off as an average person with a wife a few farm animals and a cat. This cat has been his trusted and beloved animal for as long as he can remember. All that changed on one night that he came home drunk off alcohol. He goes to pick up the black and being frightened the cat bites him He then goes and takes a knife and cuts the cat’s eye out. The cat recovers but is afraid of him. He can no longer live with the regret of what he did to the cat and goes and hangs it. Shortly after this his house burns down and the smoke stains the walls and leaves an image of a gat with a rope around its neck. He and his wife go on with their lives and he then takes in another black cat just like his except it has a white patch on its breast in the shape of a gallows. While he is the one who took the cat in the cat is closer to his wife than to him. He is enraged with this and tries to kill the cat, but in the process his wife stops him and he ends up killing her. He then welds her corps in a wall and then goes on to try and kill the cat also. He doesn't but ends up also welding the cat in the wall. After his wife’s death the police come and try to investigate the house. They find nothing but he becomes too arrogant and starts to brags on how well his house is built, and how safe it is. In the process of this the cat starts to make loud noses and he is fond out.

This story shows parts of Dark Romanticism because the Transcendentalist believe that what ever you do as first response is always good because it comes straight from god. This is proven to be wrong, because his first response was to kill his wife and two cats.

My opinion

I fall on the side of dark romanticism. I to believe that all people have a bit of evil in them some where, but I don't believe that the original sins of Adam and Eve have anything to do with it though. I also believe that what the transcendentalist said about God speaking through peoples mind and spirit. So I really go back and forth on this topic because they both have good points that I believe in.

Dark Romanticism vs Transcendentalism

The dark romanticist werer extremly diffrent from the trancesndentalist in the way that they believed in original sin. They thought that everybody eas born with the sins from Adam and Eve and that all people had a bit of evil in them some where. This went against everything that the transcendentalit believed about people.

Guy in the movie

In the movie the man has a lot of transcendentalism ways. He spends 35 years alone in the wilderness with nobody but himself and his surroundings. Going by only what he feels and not by what anyone thinks he has a peaceful life and experiences many things. He lives in a cabin that he built himself, fishes in the lake, and gets water from it also and that’s how he makes a living. The belief of transcendentalism is all through this documentary because the man is living off feelings and not situations or wants. "They believed that if a person was truly in touch with their surroundings, they could transcend these physical and man-made things to connect with God". He lived 35 years of his life doing just that in that cabin and that’s what makes him a transcendentalist.

Scenario 2

If I was Chris I would go back to school and become a high school teacher. If you have to wake up every morning and be like I hate my job then you will end up either quitting or having a miserable life. This is an example of transcendentalist because it goes on the way a person feels, and in their beliefs could be the voice of God speaking to them through their soul. Chris' wife should accept the fact that her husband has had a change of heart and should stick by his side (innless she's just a gold digger and is just with him because she knows he's going to be making a lot of money). Gut feelings and your own intuition is the main idea of transcendentalist and is what I believe is the feeing that Chris is feeling.

Thoreau

To me Thoreau is a Transcendentalist because he believes that persons own feeling is more powerful than the government. This belief was one of the biggest if not the biggest belief of a transcendentalist. He states several times that if a person thinks that something is wrong then they should speak up and let it be known. He often refers to the issue of slavery and the Mexican war as a huge issue in the country at the time. "Many people think that slavery and the Mexican war is wrong, but say or do none thing they just wait for someone else to say something." This quote is a great example because t shows the feelings of a person over what the government says is right or wrong. Once again he is stating that person’s feelings are more important than what the government thinks. He believes that God speaks through a person’s soul and the feeling that they are experiencing is actually the voice of God and should not be ignore.

The Ropewalker.

In this poem he is showing a lot of romanticism. The whole poem is based on imagery. How a worker uses his mind to imagine that he is some where rather than where he really is. He makes statements of how "two fair ladies would use the rope that he was making to swing on a swing together and laugh, how a woman could be using this rope that he is making to haul in water in from well, and how a person would also use this rope to tight rope over a large building". This is all romantic because he is doing a common job by only making rope, but he is using his imagination to think that he is doing something huge. This is another thing that romantics is all about, making it seem as if a ordinary person can achieve greatness

Thanatopsis

This poem is an example of romanticism because it makes you use your imagination. By saying things like how you can go out and interact with nature as if it was a real person. How when everybody dies they all become dirt and rocks in the ground. No matter what your status in life was its going to happen to you.

Up From Slavery.(Independent reading)

This book tells the story of the life of Booker T. Washington. He describes the life of a slave and how it is as if you have no owner ship of anything. Not even your own children. He speaks of how he was born in a log cabin about 14 by 6 feet. He, his brother, his sister, and his mother all shared this cabin with other slaves. It had a dirt floor, a thatched roof, and no bed. He also talks about how his mother would have to make their cloths out of old cotton and how many of them really didn’t have shoes. Not much attention was given to the slave family, and none of them really had any family history. They could not count so they had no real age all they could do was guess their age. All day and into most of the early part of night he worked. None f his life was devoted to play time or free time. Families had to eat what ever they could find and often it was scraps of what ever the master's family didn’t eat. Slaves were not allowed to get married so they held private wedding in their cabins where somebody would say a few words and they would jump a broom.

How I Found The Strong. (Independent Reading)

Response to Picture

This picture is an example of romanticism because it looks like a fairy place. I mean I don't think its any place on the planet that looks anything like this picture. I mean you have the animals, mountains, and the little lake and it look like the perfect place to be.

In The Legend of Sleepy Hollow there were many ways that the story emphasized the theme of Romanticism. When you read it the author tells a story of a headless horseman ridding through the night at great speed. This allows you to use your imagination over the use of your brain. Now it is a known fact that nothing without a brain can function, but with this you get a chance to imagine something like this happening. It is in many ways that you can read this story and go into something of an imaginary land and not always have to in a way use your brain.

Another way it shows it is the mentioning of a feeling of sleepiness coming over you as soon as you enter the town. Again it allows you to imagine these types of things and in some ways imagine that you are there and have that feeling come over you. Once again we know that the atmosphere can not make our body produce sleep hormones that make us tired, but the ability to be able to think of a place that could do this is extremely entertaining

Writing 3

. One of the biggest ways of cheating in the field of professional sports is to use steroids, a type of medicine that makes the body produce more muscles and less fat. Now even though steroids are just now making a big deal out of them because of the problems they have caused, that does not mean they are just now being developed. In the sports world like Track and Field, Baseball, and Football have also had athletes caught using steroids, and is one of the most talked about issue in the word today.

Now the history of steroids can be traced all the way back to ancient Greece. The Olympic athletics would be on meat diets and use plants and animal testicles as performance enhancers. Artificial performance enhancers did not come about until in the 1830’s when a group of swimmers in Amsterdam were charged with using drugs to speed up their times that. Humans have been natural competitors with each other since the beginning of time, and why not; because everybody wants to be the best. The use of steroids is one of the most talked about issues in the world of sports today.

In the 1950 Olympic weight lifting competition people would notice how huge the Soviets were, and would notice them taking pills and shots as they trained. The Soviets dominated the competition and the United States team and trainers came home wondering how they could compete with them. No matter how much they lifted, or how hard they trained, they could not match the strength of the soviets. This proved a huge problem for them, and it continued on through the decades. It wasn’t until the 1980s that people started looking at the use and effects that steroids had. It was a way to make more muscles and less fat and helped people perform better. Not only for athletes to be able to perform better, but it was also created to serve as a health provider. When scientists were looking for a way to help people with bone growth, appetite, and even puberty they went back to using antibiotic steroids. This was helping children who had problems devolving from one stage of their life to another.

One of the biggest sports affected by the use of steroids is the sport of Track and Field. In 1988 sprinter Ben Johnson was investigated on for the use of steroids after he ran the 100 meter dash in 9.95 seconds. This was so because of his previous four losses coming into the meet. He was founded guilty in 1989 after admitting that he used steroids, and had been since 1981. He was banned from the sport of track and field. Recently, world class sprinter Marion Jones denied the use of steroids but eventually came forth and confessed that she “had been dishonest” and was also banned from the sport of track and field. She was required to return all her medals and awards she had won previous to the incident. Also she was arrested on perjury and fraud charges stemming form the incident.
Also in recent years the use of steroids has been well talked about in the sport of Baseball. People like Mark McGuire, Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds, and Roger Clemens. All have been brought up before congress, but it wasn’t until recently that Barry Bonds was found guilty that no one had been found guilty of the use of steroids. While there are many people making accusations against them only Barry Bonds has ever tested positive. Roger Clemens is still undergoing questions from congress and so is Barry Bonds on account of him being the Major League Base Ball’s all time home run leader.

People in the National Football League have also tested positive for them. Shawn Merriman of the San Diego Chargers tested positive in 2006, and was suspended for 2 games. Although he did return and make the Pro Bowl that year he is under a severe drug watch testing program from the league. Several years earlier Lawrence Taylor had also tested positive, but because the league had weak policies against the use of steroids, he didn’t get into to much trouble. This in some ways confuses me. Because a player can have an off the field problem and get suspended for an entire season , but if he is caught cheating he only gets two games and still makes the pro-bowl selection. They have their policies mixed up in my mind.

While the use of steroids is illegal, they are very easy to get a hold of. The Internet and through some doctors for an extremely large amount of money will supply you with what ever you need.. Anyone who uses steroids to do anything besides what they were designed for, are what I call cheaters of life. They use a drug that helps them beat out all the other people who work hard and do it the right way. They are misleading people into thinking that they are doing it the right way when they’re really not. While they may help the athlete’s body look good on the outside it destroys you on the inside. Things such as liver tumors and high blood pressure are just a few of the many possible health hazards that can be caused by the use of steroids. There have been many cases of men beating their wives in fits of rage because it causes them user to have aggression problems and mood swings. Just in the past year a professional wrestler killed himself, his wife, and their young child out of an angry steroid rage. The side effects of steroids can be good but they can also be extremely dangerous.

Now I ask where do we go from here. In the world of professional sports it is true that you have to be a great athlete to make the big bucks, but at what cost. Some people are willing to put their body through extreme pain of the after effect just to have the immediate results. Kids who idolize their favorite athlete to think that if he did it and was successful then if I take it them I will be. The sports of Baseball, Football, and Track and Field have been under continuous attacks from the media because of a few people who wanted to ‘CHEAT” their way into greatness. The heads of all these major organizations should do something fast before the entire sports world as we know comes to a crashing end.

the Legend of Sleepy Hollow

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a great example of romanticism. Romanticism makes you use your mind just like rationalism does, but it also makes you use your imagination to which is in a way a step ahead. Not just relying on your scientific thoughts to entertain you. This made this type of thinking very popular because people in some ways grew board of the old ways.

While reading The Legend of Sleepy Hollow I was forced to use my imagination of a "headless horseman" ridding through the night, an ancient "Indian medicine doctor holding powwows with spirits", and a place that puts you in something like a dream world state of mind as soon as you "inhale the air" . These are things that you don't see on an everyday basis and so you have to imagine these things. It kept me on the edge of my seat trying to see what happened next and held my attention for quite a while. When it comes to romanticism this story is every bit of it. How many times do you see a headless horseman ridding anywhere? You don't its something that you have to use your imagination to to expierence and thats what romantocism is.

Franklin as a Rationalist

Ben Franklin’s life was almost based on rationalist beliefs. There are many reasons that I find this to be true but I am only going to list a few with supporting details. As you start to read the biography you will see a section that he states about “moral perfection”. This in included a list of thirteen virtues that he thought would help him become a better person. Things that he listed were temperance, silence, order, resolution, frugality, industry, sincerity, justice, moderation, cleanliness, and chastity, and humility. These things Franklin thought would make him a better person, and are big signs of rationalistic thinking. As opposed to the puritans belief that humans were created a certain way and that they would die that way.

Franklin also believed that his inventions would help man kind become a more perfect species. For example the invention of the bi-focal glasses, these specially designed glasses helped people see things three different ways. Franklin did not agree with the puritan’s belief that if your eyes were bad then that’s what God wanted. He believed that god gave man the intelligence to fix thing that were wrong. Another invention or theory that he had came by the way of electricity. While flying a kite in the middle of a thunder storm his kite was struck by lightning. Franklin found a way to make it possible that man could use this energy for themselves even though the puritans believed that things that came from nature were of God and man had no reason to even try and figure out the smallest detail of it. The last and final part that I think is the most important the ability for a government to run itself. He and his fellow rationalist help to form the country that we live in today known as The United States of America, and become one of the strongest in the world. . Even though they were living in a time were people said that God appoints who he wants to run countries and we should be submissive to that he still kept his own beliefs and made them a reality.

Writing Two

Marquez Foster
Today we are talking about an extraordinary basketball player who skipped college and went straight to the pros. That’s right I’m talking about LeBron James. While there have been other greats to make the jump from high school to the NBA like Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, and Amare Stoudemire he stands alone in several categories.

LeBron was the nations top basketball recruit coming out of high school, although he had hundreds of colleges throwing themselves at his feet, he chose to make millions at an early age. James was a three year high school All-American and player of the year so who wouldn’t want him. At 6 tall feet and weighing over 200 pounds he, was not the average size of an18 year old and many NBA teams noticed that. As a matter of fact the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers was so obsessed with getting him on his team that he took a $150,000 fine by the NBA and was suspended for two games for allowing LeBron to come and work out with the team.

After this he was still a high school student LeBron led his team to another state championship in his senior season and was named Cleveland’s Mr.Basketball. Next on his list of achievements was the McDonalds All-American game. This was another time for LeBron to showcase his skills to the world. First he captured the slam dunk contest crown then he led his team in points and a victory. This made him a nationwide house- hold name. People who had never even heard of him knew his name. This made teams more willing to do almost anything to get him. Some even suggested that Cleveland traded Andre Miller knowing this would make their roster weak just to get a chance at having the number one overall pick. If they did, then it worked and LeBron was the first pick in the 2004 NBA draft.

People were excited to see what this beast of a kid was able to do in the NBA. Not only was he the youngest player to start a NBA game, he was also being paid mega millions of dollars. Although he was only allowed to make so much because of the leagues rookie salary rule, he was still making $100 million in endorsements from Nike, Coca-Cola, and Upper Deck. Some thought that this type of money would give a teenager the so called “BIG HEAD” but not LeBron, while in training camp LeBron showed off his athletic ability averaging 21 points a game, six assists, and five boards a game. Talk about making a statement to the ones who doubted his ability. In the regular season he found his rhythm and in November he had 11 straight games with double digit points, and finished the month with a 33-point, 16-rebound effort against the Memphis Grizzlies
When the 2004 season started to drawn to an end most expected him to sort of die down like most rookies. But not this guy he kept on going. In March LeBron had his first “BREAK OUT GAME” against the New Jersey Nets. Scoring 41 points and dishing out 13 assists LeBron had arrived in the NBA. Throughout the month of April he recorded two more double-doubles and silicified himself as one of the NBA’s future icons. When you think about performances like this it’s obvious who won the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award. That’s right LeBron did beating out Carmelo Anthony and Dewayne Wade, and was also invited to play on the Olympic team making him the youngest player on the team.

The next season for him was no problem. He had no problem improving on his skills in all areas. Nobody in the league played more minutes than him, and he ranked third in the league in scoring. He averaged 27.2 points a game, 2.2 steals a game, and was sixth in passing with 7.2 assists a game. That year he was named to the East All-Star team and led the team in scoring and took home the MVP. That same year he led the Cavs all the way to the NBA finals where they lost to the San Antonio Spurs 3-1. A horrible ending to such a great season but look out for him to take the crown home to Cleveland sometime in the near future, because he is one of the most athletic players this league has ever seen disregarding Michael Jordan.

Declaration of Indepeendence

1) The rationalist thought that all men were created equal. It is “self-evident, that all men are created equal."
2) They believed that they had unalienable rights. "Endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights."
3) They believed that if government tried to violate these rights the citizens could overthrow the government. "Whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it."

These are rationalist thoughts because, the puritans believed that not everybody was born with rights and we should leave that alone, they thought that God chose who he waned to be head of the government and anybody who went against it was going against his will, and they did not think that everybody had rights and we didn’t' have the right to interfere with that.

Rationalist vs Puritans

The rationalist and the puritans had many diffrent belifs on things. The puritans didn't believe that all people were born with natural rights. Only a few people were chosen to have certain rights and some had more than others. They also didnt agree with the fact that rationalist thought that God created the universe and created humans to figure it out.

The rationalist thought that everything shopuld be discovered through science and not bible scriptures all the time. Sir Issac Newton used his ideas to develop the rules of energy and gravity. They used mathmatics, biology, and botany to develop their answers. Unlike the puritans the rationalist believed that everybody were born with natural rights that God had provided them with.

Essay

The Indianapolis Colts were handed their first second round playoff loss for the first time in as many as four years. They obtained a first round bye because of their 13-3 record, but were not able to get past the San Diego Chargers. Mistakes haunted one of the AFC’s dominant teams midway through the game. Poor blocking and bad defensive plays coast them the game and a chance at redemption against the Patriots.

In the beginning they looked pretty good. Payton Manning hooked up with Dallas Clarke for a 25-yard touchdown pass. The defense seemed to be handling the Chargers “BIG THREE’” of LaDanian Thomlinson, Phillip Rivers, and Antonio Gates. They were ahead 7-0 after the first quarter and held onto it for about five minuets into the second quarter. Then a fumble on a pass to Marvin Harrison gave the Chargers all the momentum they needed. On their next offensive series the Chargers tied the game up on a blown coverage in the Colts secondary.

Most fans like me would think, ok we have one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the game so we’ll be fine. We couldn’t have been more wrong. The Colts couldn’t get anything going on that series and instead of a touchdown they had to settle for a field goal. The fans in Indy were looking pretty worried, and they realized that even thought the Chargers were without Thomlinson and only had a partially healthy Antonio Gates this was going to be a battle to the end. Thomlinson left the game with an ACL injury and Antonio Gates was playing with a dislocated toe.

Manning and his cast got something of a flow going when he and Reggie Wayne hooked up for a 9-yard touchdown, but poor defense, something that had caused them problems in the first half, was another issue. The secondary wasn’t covering the right people, and the Chargers offensive line was dominating the front seven. When the chargers got the ball back Philip Rivers and Daren Sprols hooked up for a 56-yard touchdown. The Colts defenses looked dismantled and confused and seemed to not have a clue of what was going on. Poor blocking caused Manning to make bad throws, and even though they scored they were still behind. This obvious was not the team that won the Super Bowl the year before.
Without quarterback Phillip Rivers in the game because of a sprained MCL they should have been able to wrap things up. But on defense the Colts were still struggling to cover receivers and come up and make plays. Second string quarterback Billy Voaek took advantage of the poor defense the Colts were playing. His first pass was a screen to the running back for a ten yard pick up. He then hit hooked up with Chris Chambers for a touchdown, and turned what should have been a horrible drive for them into a touchdown.
In this game the Chargers came into the game as an underdog by a touchdown. Nobody gave them a chance at going into Indy and beating the defending Super Bowl Champions. With Marvin Harrison back from injury they should have had no problem getting past them, but they did and ended up loosing and getting sent home. Poor blocking and bad secondary coverage was the main reason. There is talk about head coach Tony Dungy stepping down and letting someone else take the roll of coaching now, but he hasn’t made a decision yet.

The Puritans

In the sinners in the hand of an angry god they had a few disturbing points. They had different belief's on the things that we believe to be true today. A lot of what they said was correct, but much of it was also not true. In these next few paragraphs I will explain to you the parts that I find to be true and also the parts I do not believe to be true.

In the beginning they said that god only chose a few people to be saved by his grace, and the rest would be subject to his wrath. They believe "that all men are held over the pit of hell by Gods hand". I find this not to be true because anybody who really wants this can have it. God doesn't choose a few people to have his grace it is free to anyone who wants it. Their beliefs on this was very misleading and in many ways wrong.

They also stated that Jesus only died for a select group of people. They state that "Jesus died for the chosen only, not for everyone." I find this to be wrong because the bible states that he died for all sinners and anyone who believes this has been saved from the wrath of god, because they are a new person spiritually, and should live as if they were. This is another subject that I find to believe false.

Those are two points on what I bbelieved were wrong about what they said, but there is one main part that is all the way true. That is that all men are born into sin because of "Adam and Eve's sin they committed in the beginning of time." This is true based on the facts found in the bible on this main topic. All men are born into sin and will be until they accept Jesus as their savior. This is done by accepting him into your life. Going back to the previous paragraph on how he died for a select few making it incorrect.

Although the puritans had a strong base of religion they believed some things that I find to be wrong, and as time and people moved on they started to stray away from this belief and developed a new one which is what we know as modern day Christianity.

The Puritans

In the sinners in the hand of an angry god the puritans only believed that only a few people were chosen to be saved by god. if you were not chosen then you were condemed to hell. No matter what. You would be sent to hell were a firey damnation would be your home forever. God was holding you over it untile your death. Also they said that there was nonthing you could do to stop this (as a spiders web cant stop a rock falling to the earth). They belieed that Jesus only died for a select few and the others were (subject to the wrath of god).

The Puritans

THE PURITANS STRONGLY BELIEVED IN RELIGION. THEY THOUGHT THAT IF YOU DIDNT BELIEVE IN GOD THEN YOU ARE GOING TO GO TO HELL. STRAIGHT UP. THEY SAID THAT GOD WAS THE MAIN REASON FOR EVERYTHING BEING GOOD IN YOUR LIFE, AND WITHOUT HIM YOU WOULD FALL LIKE LEAD TO THE EARTH. THEY ALSO BELIEVED THAT EVERYONE WAS BORN IN SIN BECAUSE OF ADAM AND EVE. SO THEY BELIEVE THAT EVERYONE MUST BE SAVED TO GO TO HEAVEAN
